Welcome to the official
AvantGo Style Guide. The design team has spent a few months putting
it together, and we hope that anyone doing visual communications
development will find it handy and useful. Traditionally, style
guides are assembled to govern usage of a company's logo, colors,
trademarks and other identity elements. The AvantGo guide is no
different, but does have a few more sprinkles, including
PhotoShop-ready .ACO file palettes, comprehensive logo files and
example illustrations, all presented in the AvantGo signature style.
As stated above, the guide's prime directive is to provide a fixed
point for all creative development being done by internal and
external forces. In other words, anyone doing any kind of design or
managing any creative process (brochures, collateral, PowerPoint
stuff, Web design, print design, flyers, displays, etc.) should
adhere to the principles set forth in the guide. Copies of it will
be readily available both online and on CD. AvantGo employees should
feel free to circulate it to agencies or freelance designers when
necessary. If a designer has questions about the guide, please
contact the design team.
The what and how are outlined above.
Regarding why: we decided to build the style guide to help AvantGo
The Company reinforce and enhance branding and identity efforts
through consistent visual communications. As the company grows, it's
imperative that different groups and individuals within the company
work together to present a unified visual message to the outside
world. The guide is our compass.
The guide is divided into
sections such as typography, logo, and color. Overall, it's a lot
more flexible than most (larger color palettes, more lenient
illustration specs, etc.). It features a very rigid logo usage
section. Fonts and typography receive a lot of attention, and a new
font —Verdana— has been added to the AvantGo font family as an
official electronic option. Context plays a large role in the
AvantGo identity, and we've tried to address this.
Again, if anyone has questions about interpretation of the guide, please
contact the design team.
